Wendy Marchbanks, Textile Designer, Buckinghamshire, England
What we enjoy most about Wendy’s textile designs is that they draw the viewer in by telling a story, they take you into another world. It is almost like the strange surreal quality to Salvador Dali’s work, it tugs on your imagination.
“My designs have evolved from my reflection on childhood, and a longing to nurture and cherish my childhood imagination. My compositions aim to capture the nostalgic feeling of being told a story as a child, yet they have no fixed narrative. Instead they work as ingredients, the imagery floats on the page, allowing the viewer to assemble their own story.”
Wendy is currently freelancing in London at a company called Skew, designing print, pattern and products for children’s licensing brands. About her job, Wendy says, “The thing I love about freelancing is that no two jobs are ever the same, you never quite know what’s going to come up next, it definitely keeps you on your toes.”
